We have a multifamily residential project which will have a stand alone ERV per unit, does anybody know if we need to install MERV 13 filter on all the ERV's per unit to comply with the credit requirements of EQc1 Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies under LEED v4 BD+C New Contruction? Or it is only required to systems with centralized AHU's?

Hi, I have the same question as Anne. Is there an alternative compliance path that would not require the installation of MERV 13 filtration on ERV units?

The requirement is for the MERV 13 filtration to be inolace where the outside air enters the building's supply system.

So... if there are two filter banks: one to protect the heat exchanger from debris and one to filter the air entering the building, we would use MERV 13 for the latter air breathed by humans. The filter to the heat exchanger could match manufacturer recommended specs. That way we would balance energy efficiency with indoor air quality.
