I don't know of an all encompassing resource to find compliant products, but just address them as they come up on a project. The Armaflex adhesive you referenced does not seem to be compliant, since I would agree it fits best into the multipurpose adhesive or contact adhesive categories. However on my LEED projects I have seen Armaflex 520 BLV being used instead, which has 0 g/L VOCs and appears to serve the same purpose as the Armaflex 520.

has anyone used adhesive for rubber insulation on ductwork and put it under the "sheet applied rubber lining operation" product category under Rule 1168 (850 g/L) and received LEED credit for adhesive VOC's? I agree it seems it'd better fall under the "Special Purpose Contact Adhesive" with max VOCs= 250 g/L, however wondering if anyone put it under "sheet applied rubber.." and LEED/GBCI accepted that. Thanks!

I would use ""sheet applied rubber lining operation" RULE 1168 - ADHESIVE AND SEALANT APPLICATIONS - Definitions: "SHEET-APPLIED RUBBER LINING OPERATION is the hand application of sheet rubber lining to metal or plastic substrates in order to protect the underlying substrate from corrosion or abrasion. These operations also include laminating sheet rubber to fabric." SPECIAL PURPOSE CONTACT ADHESIVE is a contact adhesive that is used to bond all of the following substrates to any surface: melamine covered board, metal, unsupported vinyl, Teflon, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, rubber and wood veneer 1/16 inch or less in thickness.

Yes I saw those definitions and they both mention applications of rubber. However I believe I read in LEED either CIR or other guidance that if a material seems to fall under 2 categories to use the more stringent category. My actual question is this: "has anyone used adhesive for rubber insulation on ductwork and put it under the "sheet applied rubber lining operation" product category under Rule 1168 (850 g/L) AND received LEED credit for adhesive VOC's?" Debra, did you have any feedback from GBCI on this issue? i need the same info: if pipe insulation adhesives may be covered by "sheet applied rubber lining operation" category. Thank you. Marco

No we haven't submitted the LEED certif. info yet. But I suspect it's OK in that category. I never heard anything contrary.  Thanks!
