Hi Louise,
EQp3 is the green cleaning policy. The policy does not address the type or quality of matting that is installed but rather the cleaning and maintenance of hard floors and carpet on at least weekly basis.
LEED EBOM v4: Enhanced Indoor Air Quality Strategies: Option 1: Entryway Systems details the requirements for permanant entryway systems. Per the LEED EBOM v4 Reference Guide, "Acceptable permanant entryway systems include: permanantly installed grates; grilles; slotted systems that allow for cleaning underneath; rollout mats; carpet tile specifically designed for entryway systems or similar use; or other materials specifically designed for use as an entryway system or similar that performs at least as well as the above systems. Typical building carpeting is not an acceptable entryway system."
The thought behind the matting/entryway systems is that it is non-porous and can capture dirt and moisture and prevents contaminants from collecting underneath. Please note that the entryway systems must be cleaned on a weekly basis and cleaning should be tracked in a log.
Thank you!
