Materials Pledge - Please support response letter to LP50

I am excited to share with you the final draft of the letter back to LP50 manufacturers.  The LP50 manufacturers sent their “Closing the Loop on Product Transparency” to design firms earlier this year.  For more background information, please check out Chris Hellstern's original August 20th post on this Green Gurus forum.  When we posted the letter this summer, we received a lot of amazing input and the final draft is better for all of the voices we heard from.  Thank you!  The response letter also now includes the Materials Pledge aspirations that were developed within the AIA Materials group over the last year.  If your firm would like to support the letter, please send your firm logo to either me (lona.rerick@zgf.com).  (And, if you already supported the earlier draft shared this summer, then just confirm that you are still in support of this new version.)  As a bonus, there will be supporters promoting the letter this week at Greenbuild so if you get your logo in quick your firm can show up as an early supporter.

Lona spearheaded this effort but a number of us in this group were involved with this draft.  I think it is a definite improvement over the last letter and i would recommend that folks seriously consider signing on to this letter. I would want to suggest that you all read it first.  It pretty clearly states that everyone who signs is actively using material transparency information in their product selection process. And it also includes a multi-part pledge to continue improving our work.  The AIA Materials Knowledge Working Group is going to be actively working on a framework to back up this pledge in the coming year, watch for more information coming out on that over the next couple of months. As Lona says there are a number of us who are going to be talking this up at Greenbuild.  I will be doing a quick 5 minutes on this tomorrow at the get together at HKS so if you have questions you can hold off.  But this letter is hitting the expo hall Wednesday morning at 10:00am and we would really appreciate it if as many of you as possible can sign on to this effort.

Has this letter been sent?

Wed, 01/30/2019 - 21:14

Thanks for asking.  I've been meaning to post an update.  The letter will be officially "sent" at the end of April before Living Future.  The deadline to have your firm added to the Materials Pledge letter is April 15th (Tax Day).  There will be an event at Living Future to get manufacturers, design firms, and other invested parties together.  We are up to 42 signatory firms!  Thanks to everyone from SD Leaders who has joined this call for action.  And, please feel free to share the draft with others who may want to sign on.

I didn’t realize until tonight that L|F did not sign onto this. Is it too late for us to participate? Thanks Heather Gayle Holdridge, LEED Fellow LAKE | FLATO ARCHITECTS p 210.679.2312 m 210.860.5635 F
