The credit requests confirmation that the project has MERV 11 or higher filters (if project is in nonattainment area for PM2.5). Is this request mandatory in existing buildings as well? Even if the installation is impossible because of no available space?

Hi Francesco,
Yes, the confirmation that the project has MERV 11 or higher filters (if the project is in nonattainment area for PM2.5) is also mandatory in existing building if the systems able to meet required outdoor airflow rates (case 1). If the system unable to meet required outdoor airflow rates because of the physical constraints of the existing ventilation system (case 2), the confirmation of MERV 11 is not available anymore, but you need to complete an engineering assessment of the system's maximum outdoor air delivery rate. You can download the sample form for LEED v4 O+M Existing Buildings EQp Minimum Indoor Air Quality Performance in this link: http://s3.amazonaws.com/ao-leedonline-prd/documents/usgbc/leed/content/CreditFormsDownload/2012/V02/eq/eq103/EQp_IAQ_Performance_OM.pdf
