NC-v4 SSc6:Light pollution reduction

Lighting fixtures under water

Hi,

In our design we have lighting fixtures placed facing up at the bottom of an external water fountain. Should I treat these fixtures as 100% upward light or is there any exception/reduction for this type of luminaires under water?

Thank you in advance.

I would count this as 100% uplight.

You might be able to make the argument to make a small reduction, say 10%, but you'd have to explain that you are doing that and the reviewer might not buy it. And a 10% reduction isn't probably going to help you much anyhow, unless you happen to be right on the threshold of compliance

Thank you for the replies. We will count 100% uplight as worst case scenario. On the other hand, I wonder how to count it for the power allowance section. I believe this should be a non-tradable lighting, however I am not sure under what surface category type should fall. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

9.4.2 Exterior Building Lighting Power.
Exceptions:
1. Lighting used for the following exterior applications is exempt when equipped with a control device that complies with the requirements of Section 9.4.1.4 and is independent of the control of the nonexempt lighting:
f. Lighting for water features.

100% uplight is what should be counted in.
