NC-v4.1 EQc6:Interior Lighting

Lighting Control for Resting Room

We are currently reviewing compliance with LEED v4.1 EQ Interior Lighting credit for a data center project.

We have this resting room (used primarily for sleeping/resting by staff) and currently doesnt have any dim driver. Could it be excluded from the lighting control requirements since its function involves minimal visual tasks and limited need for lighting adjustment. Would such a space still be required to comply with individual lighting control (e.g., dimming), or could a simplified control strategy (e.g., ON/OFF switching) or exclusion be considered acceptable?

Hello,The credit only requires 90% of regularly occupied spaces to be dimmable. The first condition is whether the resting room is considered regularly occupied. Regularly occupied spaces are spaces where a user would spend a cumulative 1 hour of time per day. It is important that the regularly occupied spaces are consistent across all of the LEED credits for a single project so make sure to check that. The second condition is that 10% of spaces are allowed to be non-dimmable, so if all other regularly occupied spaces have dimming, you may be able to leave the resting room out.

A slight correction - the definition of regularly occupied is for 1 continuous hour of occupation, not cumulative.

I agree with Kera's response and am adding my experience in a similar situation. On a past project I was unsuccessful when claiming exclusion for regularly occupied rooms with functions that involve minimal visual tasks and limited need for lighting adjustment. In this instance I've experienced success with task lights; and GBCI did not require the task lights to be hardwired. Hope this helps!
