I am working on a reastaurant project and have 3 questions
1 Do we need to provide Five types pd recycles as required by LEED or can we provide only the type of wastes generated by the building types such as food, paper, plastic.
2 Do we need to provide both the recycle bins and storages saperately? Can we provide the big recycle bins (in the dining area) which can serve the adequate volume of waste and these big bins (placed in permanent built-in cabinet) counted as the collection as well?
3 If we want to use the comingled storage, what document do we need to submit to GBCI? Is the narrative enough to make the case?

Hi Jatuwat, some quick responses:
1. All five types must be provided, regardless of the waste types generated by the project.
2. As long as there is adequate justification to the recycling volume and pickup frequencies, the bins could serve as storage. Your narrative should include details along those lines, describing exactly how long recycling waste will stay in the bins and when it will be picked-up for recycling. If the bins get emptied because they are full, but pickup doesn't occur immediately, then recycling storage will be necessary. So, the narrative must adequately address expected volume and frequency.
3. Commingled recycling is okay, but the narrative should address LEED Interpretation 1647 for the exact submittal requirements.

So, if the recycle bins in the common area counted as the storage, we should provide five bins for each recycle types. Am I corrent?

If you don't have commingled waste stream, yes. But, again, the narrative must address how the bins will be big enough to handle any unexpected, large volume for the purposes of storage.
