I'm actually not sure you're on the right track.
The project requirements aside, I would want to make sure you're using the right rating system, by checking the LEED rating system selection policy. If enough alterations are going on in the building, EBOM may not really be a good fit.
It's a generally accepted path to use LEED credits from outside the "target" LEED rating system for innovation points. However, it seems that credits are most often being plucked from LEED-EBOM for us in D&C systems, not the other way around.
Which credits did you have in mind?
Typically for this appraoch to work your selected credits have to not be addressed in the "target" system. In the case of construction waste management, that is covered under EBOM MRc9.
