NC-v4 MRc1:Building life-cycle impact reduction

LCA - existing party wall

Hi all -

For Option 4 LCA, if a building is sharing one wall (essentially a party wall) with an existing building, can one take credit for impact reduction by connecting to an using an existing wall and structure?  For instance:

1. Can the shared wall be modeled as new in the baseline and reused in the proposed? OR

2. Can the baseline be modeled as a typical exterior wall (structure and envelope) and the proposed model include only the additional wall elements (furring and interior finishes)? OR

3. Would the proposed and baseline have to be modeled the same: existing wall plus new furring and finishes?

Erin, I think this depends on the constraints of your project. Is it an expansion that could be a separate building but there was a decision to make it an expansion? Is it a town house, where you must have a shared wall?
