Pilot-Credits WEpc115:Whole Project Water Use Reduction

Irrigation Baseline

Hi,

we are considering the application of the water efficiency alternative compliance path (ACP) “Whole Project Water Use Reduction” (Pilot Credit) in a building with relevant water consumption for the industrial process (additionally to sanitary water and irrigation).

Our proposal to define baseline model is as follow:

  1. Industrial process: as described in credit language;
  2. Sanitary equipment: as defined in LEED Credit Indoor water use reduction;
  3. Irrigation:
    1. according to LEED Credit Outdoor Water Use:
      1. water savings for irrigation are calculated for the peak watering demand month;
      2. baseline water use is assumed to be equal to the evapotranspiration of the peak watering demand month (LEED v4_Outdoor Water Use Calculator);

This approach is not adequate for the above referred ACP (APC is based on annual water savings).

  1. our proposal is as follow: for each month assume that baseline water needs are equal to evapotranspiration of the month. Do you agree with this approach ?

Thanks for your attention. I’m looking forward to your reply.

Oi Ricardo, If you have time before the submittal, I recommend you ask this directly to USGBC through the LEED Coach system.  I also had a hard time documenting the irrigation water usage. The Outdoor Water User Calculator gives only water usage for 1 month. I created an index by dividing each month's ET0 by the peak month's ET0. I don't know if this is correct, but it gives me water usage for all months that are lower to the peak watering month.

Hello, Is there any new information regarding this topic? Can you share your experiences how did USGBC respond to your proposals regarding monthly water usage for irrigation?  Thank you in advance!

Hi Vytautas, we received the following feedback from USGBC: “yes, project teams can perform the Outdoor Water Use Calculations for each month with irrigation water demand using the evapotranspiration rate for the month and sum the results, to determine the annual irrigation water consumption in the baseline. “

Thank you for sharing Ricardo, had the same inquiry while working on this pilot credit.
