Introduction

Hello! I just joined the SAL group and am thrilled to be a part of this amazing network! I am an architect and an educator and now run my own sustainable consulting practice in the Boston area. Having previously led the sustainability efforts at several of Boston’s large architecture and design firms, I made the exciting (and scary) leap in 2017 to start my own firm. I provide project management/facilitation for lots of LEED projects, a few Envision for sustainable infrastructure projects and just recently a few Passive House projects, which are the most exciting.

I also do a lot of teaching and professional education which I love because it gives me the opportunity to engage with people across disciplines and also provides the opportunity to mentor young people and hear their visions for our future. I am a former USGBC Faculty member and an Envision trainer and have taught LEED/green building courses at the USGBC MA chapter, the Boston Architectural College, Tufts University’s graduate program in urban and environmental planning and at Carnegie Mellon University in the architecture program. Last spring I had a new opportunity to co-lead a project-based learning course at Brighton High School in Boston which challenged the students to use architecture and design to solve a problem and also required them to learn about and integrate concepts of sustainability and social equity into their solutions. It was a fantastic experience and I hope to do it again.

My passions right now all revolve around the urgent need for us to solve and reverse climate change. I have two kids ages 8 and 11 and their futures are infused in all of the work that I do. Last summer I successfully completed the full-week course and exam to become a Certified Passive House Consultant through the Passive House Institute of the U.S. (PHIUS), and I have been fortunate to start work on several projects considering the rigorous energy reduction requirements that it mandates. In the last year I have also delved into the area of embodied carbon, attending several conferences on the subject, and have started collaborating on a research project to quantify the embodied carbon of existing buildings in order to create justification for their reuse.

I am very excited to join this network and connect with other like-minded and innovative people in our field in order to share resources, new ideas and lessons learned through our work!
