We are working on a project that has a chilled water plant that consists of variable speed chillers and pumps with associated VFDs. Both the integrated chiller controls and the pump VFDs have the capability to meter energy consumption and demand. It is our intent to report this information the the BAS along with the other building sub-meters for compliance with the advance energy meter credit. Is it acceptable to utilize the on-board energy monitoring capability of these devices as part of our strategy to comply with the advance energy metering credit, or do redundant stand alone energy meters need to be installed?

If your meters/monitoring devices have the same characteristics as required by the advanced energy meters in the credit language then you are clearly fine. If not then the reviewer potentially has discretion to deny the credit based on the lacking characteristics of your meters. Do your meters meet the criteria? If not what criteria do they not meet? If you want a definitive answer you might need to submit a LEED Interpretation.
