Inputting area of trees in the LEED calculator

What area must be provided in the calculator for areas of trees, is it the tree canopy or diameter of the trunk?

I believe canpoy after 10 years of growth is allowed.  That is the measurement for Heat Island Reduction.

Typically when we receive data from the Landscape Architect on trees it comes in quantities (numbers), is that not the accepted approach for the calculator?

Hi, If I am not mistaken should be the landscape area, and by seen the LEED reference guide example calculation it can be apreciated that this represent the general area not only the trees canopies. This is my interpretation.

According to EPA Water sense definition, the input area for the calculator should be the landscape area and this is defined as follow: Landscaped area (A): The designed area of landscape excluding the footprint of the home and permanent hardscape areas such as driveways, sidewalks, and patios. Septic drainage fields and public right-of-ways should also be excluded from this calculation. https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2017-01/documents/ws-homes-water-budget-approach.pdf

Hi Priscilla,

The calculation of tree area should be counted by tree canopy anticipated at the 10 year growth stage as is done in Open Space credit.
