Hello everyone! I am working on a CSv3 project where the building owner will be responsible for a rather sizable food service operation within the building. The owner would like to implement a Grind-to-Energy system (food waste feeder, grinder, sediment tank, and subsequent removal service) to assist with wet waste from the food service operation. The byproduct is an organic slurry that is removed from the buildng, dewatered off-site, and processed into methane gas and organic fertilizer. Has there been any specific Innovation language around this w/r/t LEED? Thanks!

Hi Brian, are you familiar with this pilot credit on composting? It looks like it provides a path that may be applicable to you!
This forum thread may also be relevant for consideration if the pilot credit doesn't fit—not as encouraging, though.

Thanks Tristan - I did look into the Pilot credit on Composting and have sent that information to the owner to see if they are willing to implement some of the other measures listed there. I don't see Grind-to-Energy, or that concept really outlined as a strategy, so that's why I am wondering if we could petition for it to be consider an Innovation approach as a stand-alone. It is...Innovative!

Brian, my read was that the entire Option 1 looked pretty compatible with your project -- maybe with the addition of additional compost collection in other portions of the building.
If that's not a fit, it might be worth looking into seeing who's behind the pilot credit, and giving them feedback about the suitability of it for this project. This is a longer-term strategy but often these pilot credits aren't written initially with the benefit of input from diverse real-world projects like yours, and they could update the requirements if there's a case to be made.
Otherwise, I think it would have to be a waste stream under waste management.

Wow, interesting project! It's really innovative, and I hope that it will have success. I appreciate the young generation and their awesome idea that are implemented to help our environment and fight against climate change. I have recently discovered, not a similar project, but also enthusiastic people that create a website http://usave.co.uk where you can enter your data, and compare energy prices.
