Hi! In one of our projects, we must use a high performance polyurethane coating on the floor due to its superior chemical and abrasion resistance. By definition, I would put it as an Industrial Maintenance Coating, but this category is missing from the 2009 LEED letter template. Should I put it in the Waterproofing Concrete/ Masonry category and write a narrative explaining the situation? By the way, the product contains 240 g/L of VOC. Thanks!

I worked with USGBC staff on a similar workaround over the summer. See the thread below started by Douglas Dietrich. Based on experience earlier this year, I think GBCI will accept this approach - no guarantees. I hope staff will chime in on this thread. Be sure that the product literature clearly states that it is classified as an Industrial Maintenance Coating. That might help on the documentation side.

Vanessa, I've used that approach and it's worked for me in the past -- though this of course is no guarantee that it'll work in the future. There are definitely atypical products that fall outside of the standard categories. Dwayne's suggestion regarding product literature is a good one.
