IEQp1: Exhaust fans for public and private lavatories, kitchen, cafeteria and multiuse court Our project is a new school. The Design Final Review denied IEQp1 with two comments. In general they state: 1. For the Multiuse Court and Dining Room (naturally ventilated spaces) provide a graphical, numerical, simulation algorithm, etc. for proving compliance with ASHRAE 62.1. 2. For toilet rooms and janitor closets that are not mechanically exhausted please provide calculations similar to those described above to verify the minimum required air will be exhausted from each space. For prerequisite compliance, we decided to modify the design and provide exhaust fans for these spaces, as our mechanical engineer is not able to provide airflow simulations for natural ventilation. Our mechanical engineer argues that the information for these spaces that will have an exhaust fan should not be included in the IEQp1 credit form v4, Table IEQp1-A2 Mechanical Ventilation – Single Zone Unit. He interprets that this table is only for mechanical conditioning systems and not mechanical ventilation, such as exhaust fans and that the information on his drawings are enough to prove credit compliance. Is he correct? I would assume that, if he is correct, then he needs to prepare, in addition to the mechanical drawings, a table similar to the credit form table IEQp1-A2 for exhaust fans and upload it as an additional documentation. However, in the previous reviews we inserted the information for exhaust fans for the kitchen in this table, and no comments were made. Currently we are working on the credit dynamic template with the input of all exhaust systems into Table IEQp1-A2 and it is demonstrating compliance. Any suggestions? Thanks.
