IEQp1: ASHRAE 62.1 vs Local Code

Some states and major metropolitan areas have their own local codes. If the local code is more stringent than ASHRAE 62.1 with some requirements and less in others, do the mechanical ventilation systems need to be designed to satisfy both the local code and 62.1? This could be impossible with conflicting requirements. What is proper way to approach this prerequisite?

Great Question! My advice is to follow ASHRAE 62.1; and when the local code has more stringent requirements, for certain occupancies, adhere to the more stringent requirements of the local code for those specific occupancies. So you will actually have a "hybrid" of code compliance. This will comply with both IEQ p1 and local codes.

Hello David, How would you document prerequisite compliance? It seems as if the ASHRAE excel file cannot be modified to include the building code numbers?
