IECC 2021

Has anyone seen a comparison between IECC 2021 and previous versions of the energy code, including ASHRAE 2010? I'm curious how far ahead code buildings are relative to LEED v4.0, and how much the latest IECC raises the bar relative to the previous. I did a quick search for the LBNL and other studies that look at this, but didn't see anything out there.

Thanks,

Josh

Hey Josh, PNNL has done the analysis on ASHRAE 90.1-2019 (ASHRAE 90.1 generally tracks to the IECC version 2 years ahead, so 90.1-2019 ~ IECC 2021, not exact of course, but for context). The PNNL report on 90.1-2019 can be found here:  https://www.energycodes.gov/sites/default/files/documents/20210407_Standard_90.1-2019_Determination_TSD.pdf Hope that helps

Thanks Jeff. I don't know why I didn't find that when I searched. Maybe because I mixed up LBNL with PNNL. Anyway, using this and the previous reports they've done, you can see the changes in EUI. For example, office goes from an EUI of 33.0, 36.8, and 71.9 (for small, med, large) in 2010 to 25.6, 29.7, and 53.2 in 2019, or an 22, 19, and 26% reduction. I can convert that to LEED points under v4.0. Does that seem like a decent approach? Also, have you seen any sources that show the gas v elec breakdown for building types and climate zones under various codes? That'd be a great resource.
