Has there been any guidance posted on exactly how to measure athletic fields per this language: "Dedicated athletic fields that are solely for athletic uses are exempted from counting toward the total site area. These areas may not count toward the protected greenfield or restored habitat areas."
Our project is a high school. On site we have a track with football field, baseball field, softball field, multi-purpose practice field, shotput field, discus field. The field surfaces will be artificial turf, with dirt at the infields and concrete at the throwing pits. I'm looking for some guidance on what areas qualify for exemption. For example: Is the football field exempt, but the track is included in site area? At the baseball and softball fields, is any part of the infield excluded from the exemption? What about the shotput and discus throwing pits? The credit language does not differentiate planted turf vs artificial turf, nor provide any guidance on whether sand, dirt, or running track surfaces are included in the definition of "fields". Obviously, for this credit, where we draw the boundaries of "athletic fields" has a big impact on the percentage calculation for habitat restoration areas, as removing the athletic fields makes the overall site area smaller and thus increases the percentage of habitat areas in the calculation. So I'd like to use a vetted approach before submitting for review.
Any help is appreciated.Thanks.
