Our project building is 75% existing and 25% new construction. When the credit form calculates the EAc1 points, it is done based on a weighted average, which makes sense. What I cannot tell is if the formula, embedded in the form, truncates the final result, or rounds it. In other words, if the weighted average comes out to 6.75, is that 6 or 7 points?

The formula determines the percent savings threshold adjustments. Then the points are assigned to them. So any rounding is done to the percent savings threshold, not the points themselves. I am not sure when the form rounds the percentages. If I had to guess it would be based on the third digit to the right of the decimal.

Interesting, I thought the percentages were truncated as well; (i.e. 19,8% was 19%). Since our project is an existing building with new construction (25.6%) the formula would look something like this: (assume 12% savings)
(.256 x 3pts) + (.744 x 5pts) = 4.448 points The form is awarding 4 points for the credit. Just wondering is it worth going thru and refining the space calculations to see if there is the possibility to get the new construction percentage down to 25.0% or less, which would calculate to 4.5 points...only makes sense to go thru the exercise if 4.5 would then be rounded up to 5 points awarded. Is there anyway to actually see the formulas in the auto-filled blanks on the LEED credit forms?

I am not aware of anyway to see the formulas. Again the adjustment is applied to the percent savings, not the points.
If your project is 25% new then your minimum threshold for earning the first three points is 9% (12% new, 8% existing). The formula is existing minimum energy cost savings % + (4 x % new construction) so 8% + (4 x 25.6%) = 9.024%. From there each additional point is earned at each 2% increment. So 11.024% earns 4 points, 13.024% earns 5 points, etc.
Your formula appears to get you to the same place but the points are not rounded. You have to attain the next increment to earn the next point.

We just experimented with the form. It does round to the third decimal place. 11.994% rounds down to 11.99% and 11.995% rounds up to 12%.
