NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Hotel HVAC (electric) and DHW (gas) systems

Am I right to assume in the baseline building:

1 - The use of HVAC system 2 for all hotel spaces since it is considered a "Residential" building (according to table G3.1.1A of ASHRAE90.1-2007) ? Can we apply this system type to all zones (bedrooms, corridors, reception)?

To other zones (car parks, exercise center, restaurants), I am considering “nonresidential” building types.

2 - To decide which HVAC system to consider for all “nonresidential” area, I apply the criteria from table G3.1.1A to all “nonresidential” 2600 m2 with 5 floors and select system 6, correct?

3 - However, there are also spaces that fall under G 3.1.1 exception b (space peak thermal load that differ 31,2W/m2 or more than the average of the system). Does the calculation of the average thermal load regards only the nonresidential spaces? Or should I include in this calculations all the building’s area?

4 - Regarding the DHW system, there are 2 boilers  of 125 kW each (nominal nameplate power), serving 2 storage tanks of 3.000 liters each. The baseline DHW system that I'm choosing for the baseline is a Gas storage water heater, with more than 22,98 kW and, therefore, has 80% (Et), right?

Thank you in advance!

1. Yes assuming the proposed systems are electric heating. For the non-residential space first subtract the area of the residential spaces then enter Table G3.1.1A. 2. Yes only use the area of the non-residential spaces. 3. Any G3.1.1 exceptions should be relative to the majority of non-residential spaces. So yes only the non-residential spaces. 4. The DHW systems should use the same fuel type and be based on the same load unless claiming savings for a reduced hot water load.

Another issue came up! Regarding point 2): to determine the nonresidential HVAC system, must I include the "Car park" (unconditioned) building area? Thank you all in advance!

No. Just the conditioned space.
