Hi folks,
We had a rich conversation in our monthly meeting last week. I've summarized the highlights below. Next call is July 11 at 2pm eastern. If it isn't already in your calendar, here's the Zoom link.
What’s on people’s minds?
-
Looking into high-temp water-source heat pumps for industrial applications. Transom and Oilon now getting up to 280F.
-
Checking out Catalyst podcast on quality control problems with carbon credits
-
Eversource ground-source heat pump pilot in Framingham, Mass--new neighborhood scale approach
-
Challenged by solar zone calcs in new Massachusetts code--doesn’t allow for rooftop equipment taking up space?
Integrative Design:
RFP language: If there’s a strong OPR the design team has to work to meet the performance goals.
Facade as an area of shared interest between architects and engineers. What WWR do people typically start with in initial discussions with architect collaborators?
-
About 20-25% window wall ratio in MA for residential boxy buildings
-
Commercial office ends up at around 50% in NYC, start at 60
-
Triple glazing? Developer projects for commercial office spaces finding it doesn’t matter in the performance of the building
SMEPL Summit:
We all love the idea of an in-person event, but the group is small so it’s hard to get to critical mass (need 25-30).
Business development connection with SDLs would help, but that’s not the core purpose of this group, so it can't be the primary focus of a gathering.
What would help grow the group? What brought us in today?
-
Huge amount of value in our conversations. So much value in the room.
-
Such a broad reach across the country that we are in different situations, so great to learn from folks in other areas.
-
Opportunities to get into the technicalities of challenges
Monthly Meetings are best when we have a focus topic to kick things off:
Future Sharing
For July: Chris Colasanti presenting on facades - impact of different facade characteristics of overall energy performance
Later:
-
IRA changes with heat pumps
-
Data from running around with an air quality monitor during the bad air quality times in NYC
-
Any other topics/volunteers?
