Hi all
I am working on an existing building where the LEED boundary is the building footprint.
We want to achieve this credit via the installation of a green roof of 30% of the site area.
However I am unsure of the required green roof characteristics and depth.
For example the reference guide states than an extensive roof would work (1 to 6 inches), however I have seen 12 inches in the reference guide (Table 2) and in this forum.
Which is correct regarding depth?
Also does the green roof soil need to comply with Table 2 in the reference guide? The only language that I can see directly referencing the green roof make up is if plants are native or adapted, provide habitat, and promote biodiversity then all is good.
Have anyone had this clarified?

Hi Cathal, there's no roof depth requirement for v4 - an intensive or extensive roof can achieve the credit. I don't believe the roof soil needs to comply with Table 2 since really it should be specially designed to support the plant species selected for the roof. I'd be curious if anyone's confirmed this on an actual project though!
