Green Cleaning for LEEDv4 CI

Hi Kena, it's not super clear in the credit language but for LEED CI projects the green cleaning policy must address the CI space. So you'll need to develop and submit a compliant policy that's followed by the custodial vendor that services the CI project space.

I've had this issue on projects in the past. In v3, we could claim a base building service like Green Cleaning under the Site Selection credit as exemplary performance related specifically to the base building. That option no longer exists in v4. You'll need to show that your CI space is doing something specific to only your space on top of what is provided by the base building.

We submitted a green cleaning policy specific for our interiors, and received the following comments: a. Provide a revised Green Cleaning Policy that includes a contingency plan to manage staffing shortages. b. Goals and strategies for reducing toxicity of chemicals used for ware-washing, laundry and other activities. c. Address ergonomic design criteria for equipment.   None of these strategies are listed as a requirement in the LEED v4 O+M EQ Prerequisite for Green Cleaning Policy Option 1. Hi Stacey, those items are listed in the Requirements section of the credit language (see https://www.usgbc.org/node/2614211?return=/credits/existing-buildings/v4/indoor-environmental-quality). Reducing toxicity is under the Goals and Strategies heading, and staff contingency planning is under the Personnel heading. Ergonomic equipment a buried a little deeper within the requirement to address EQ Credit: Green Cleaning—Cleaning Equipment. These strategies are also included within the policy template that was developed by USGBC, which can be downloaded here: https://www.usgbc.org/node/2614211?view=resources&return=/credits/existing-buildings/v4/indoor-environmental-quality. Staffing contingency plan is on page 1, reducing toxicity is on page 3, and ergonomic design is under the sustainability criteria on page 5. You can pull the relevant language into your policy in order to address the review comments.

The IN credit catalogue for LEED v4 ID+C CI no longer shows Green Cleaning as an option. Was it removed recently?  And the Integrated Pest Management IN credit notes "All of the building and site must be under the control of the ID&C tenant." Was this wording recently added?

Hi Sheryl, I see the Green Cleaning innovation credit here: https://www.usgbc.org/node/12106211?return=/innovationcatalog/commercial-interiors/v4. I'm not sure when that language made it's way into the Pest Management innovation credit...

I would think a contract agreement that indicates the Tenant will use the Base Building Cleaning Plan & the same Cleaning Company would suffice. An additional letter from the Owner indicating their commitment to Green Cleaning & the Base Building Guidelines would be good. Let us know how it goes!
