Furniture Reuse vs. Building Product Disclosure and Optimization— Sourcing of Raw Materials "Materials Reuse"

Hello LEED world,

Option 2 of this credit grants 1 point if you "Reuse, salvage, or refurbish furniture and furnishings for at least 30% of the total furniture and furnishings cost." We have a brand new project where there is no existing furniture to bring over from another location or reuse from current location. Question is: Does the reused, salvaged, refurbished furniture have to be from the same Owner, or can work with our furniture dealer to specify used/refurbished systems from some other Owner/project and therefore be eligible for this point? Or, would the second option only count towards BPDO - Sourcing of Raw Materials, "Materials Reuse" strategy?

Thanks!

Hi Kristen,  We purchased used chairs from another project of ours and counted them as reused furniture for our v4 interiors project for both Interiors Life Cycle impact Reduction - Furniture Reuse and Sourcing of Raw Materials - Material Reuse. We didn't provide any additional supporting documents for this credit, however we had supplied a narrative for BPDO Sourcing of Raw Materials and provided photos of the chairs where they existed prior to our purchase and them in our new space. The type of documentation you would provide would likely vary, but I'm sure a declaration on the invoice that states the furniture was purchased used (that would be at least 2 years old) and a supporting narrative should be suffice. It was also very obvious from the photos the chairs were 40+ years old!  Alara
