FTE Calculations for the Train Station (LEED CS 2009)

Hello Everybody, We have a Rapid Train Station Mixed-Use Project consisting of Train Station Building, which encloses Hotel, Mall and Offices. Could you please suggest any guidance on how to calculate FTE for that type of the building? Or share own experience. Thank you in advance.

Hi Orçun, I think it would be best to divide the population into the three categories you mentioned (hotel, Mall, Offices), analyze them individually and then add up the FTEs. FTEs are calculated by adding full-time employees and part-time employees, adjusted for their hours of work (FTE employees = Full-time employees + (Σ daily part-time employee hours / 8)). For unusual occupancy patterns, you should calculate the FTE building occupants based on a standard eight-hour occupancy period (FTE employees = (Σ all employee hours / 8)). You can also find additional guidance on the MPR Supplemental Guidance Revision #2, Updated: September 1, 2011, under "Calculation method for determining annual FTE in design and construction projects" (http://www.usgbc.org/resources/leed-2009-mpr-supplemental-guidance-revision-2-september-2011) For unkown occupancy, you can also check Appendix 2 "Default occupancy counts" (http://www.usgbc.org/node/4335106?return=/credits/new-construction/v4/appendices). I hope this helps.
