Hi Kate!  Dan Jaconetti, fellow RPI alum here.  So great to see you pop up on this forum.  Wally Kroner would be proud!

Hi Don, I’ve had luck with FSC LVLs at RedBuilt. I’m not sure if they have FSC glulams but you could ask them: http://www.redbuilt.com/commercial-systems/complementary-products [ARCH | NEXUS] PATTY KARAPINAR AIA, LEED AP BD+C O+M, WELL AP ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF SUSTAINABILITY 930 R Street Sacramento, CA 95811 Office 916.443.5911 Mobile 530.306.7296 archnexus.com [Twitter][Facebook][Youtube][LinkedIn] Fro

Kate, Nordic Structures, Altruwood, and Unalam also offer FSC glulams. These are usually custom products so allow plenty of lead time.

RPI trifecta here (class of '99!) - we were just looking into this issue for an LBC project in Oregon. The feedback we got from a number of sources is that yes FSC glulams are available, typically up to a 55% premium, and definitely a special run from the mill. Fairly certain Bullitt Center used Calvert Company (see attached materials list), Chris Hellstern could probably confirm. It's my understanding that many of the Oregon folks have dropped out of the FSC game because the state standards exceed the forest management side of FSC, so all the manufacturers were paying for was the tracking part, which becomes a mound of paperwork. Many companies are now SFI Chain-of-Custody Certified Sourcing, but most of the rating programs are not in alignment yet. We are including the following in our specs: Western Wood Structures
Reliance Specialty Building Products
Calvert Company, Inc
AltruWood
Structurlam
Boise?
DR Johnson?
Matheus Lumber?
Sustainable NW Wood? If you need to source from out here, Woodworks (www.woodworks.org) is a good resource.

Hi Kate, FSC glulams are quite common as we use them in our Living Building and other projects.  One of the best resources is FSC the organization, where they have a search tool that allows you to input all your parameters and find suppliers.  There's also a wood inquiry form where you can submit what you're looking for and suppliers will connect with you.  I've had great success with both.  If those still don't work, let me know as I have a number of other suppliers I can connect you with. Jay, I'm curious about what you've heard regarding Oregon forest practices being comparable to FSC. I checked with Terry Campbell at Sustainable NW Wood who stated that Oregon Forest Practice laws are less stringent than CA and Washington and much less than FSC. On topic, he agreed that Glulams have a higher premium for FSC than lumber and plywood, and are available. Might be worth opening a new thread for PNW FSC vs Non-FSC forest practices, availability, etc. Terry had some other remarks too, I think I hit a nerve.
