FSC certification for small landowners

SDLers – For one of our projects we are working with local tribes to procure timber. We would also like to get FSC certification, but haven’t found significant overlap between these two criteria in the Pacific Northwest. There appear to be two certification entities in our area: Northwest Natural Resource Group and Trout Mountain Forestry.  I’m wondering if anyone has experience in working to help an entity get a forest certified and might be able to talk in the next week with me very generally about logistics, cost, and timeframe.

Thanks!

Kjell

Hi Kjell - try reaching out to Paul Vanderford at Sustainable Northwest (paulv@sustainablenorthwest.org). Paul is the Green Markets Program Director working to match up the market and ecological forest managment scources. He has been involved with sustainable wood procurement policies and wood responsibly sourced from publically owned land, federally owned forests, and forests owned and managed by native tribes. Very helpful and knowledgeable on one of our recent projects. Don't know if Paul will be able to help in this instance but worth contacting to have a quick discussion.
