NC-2009 MRc7:Certified Wood

FSC Alternative - Environmental Stewardship

We are looking to purchase sustainably harvested wood for our project, but the FSC cost has driven it out as a possibility (an additional $700k for FSC with all our millwork). Ignoring getting any LEED MRc7 or ID credit is there a sustainable harvesting program that has either no or minimal cost that we could look into as an alternative. We are located in the NYC region and we were thinking potentially a Canadian System for any regional contributions as well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Again we are not looking to get a point, just do the right thing but not destroy our budget. Thanks.

Daniel, Have you looked into Canadian Standards Association's Sustainable Forest Management Standard (CAN/CSA-Z809-02)? This standard is referenced in the Built Green Canada rating system, but I am not familiar enough with it to know how much it would cost to have a product certified to this standard.
