NC-2009 IEQp1:Minimum IAQ Performance

Fresh air provision - Garment factory building

Our project is a garment factory building (G+5), having majority floor area as production unit which is mechanically ventilated. The office & meeting areas in the whole building is less than 5% of the total floor area, which is conditioned (Split AC’s). The issue with the office & meeting area is the provision of fresh air (No place for TFA's). Is there any exception for this type of buildings about the fresh air provision?

Aravindraj, I don't know of any exceptions. Delivering OA to the office and meeting areas will be of great value for those people who use those areas. In the market where I work at, we usually have heat exchange ventilation units for ventilation in this type of situation. Those units are usually embedded in the ceiling. All you need is 0.5 meter to put them there, no separate rooms or exterior equipment necessary. I hope this helps.

One 'trick' GBCI has allowed on past projects is to over-ventilate the production area and provide transfer of this air into the office and meeting areas. Even though the air has already passed through the production, GBCI still considers this to be 'outdoor air'. (determine the Air Class of the production relative to the office/meeting rooms, air should not be transferred to 'cleaner rooms') Also, when determining the amount of outdoor air needed within the office/meeting rooms...you may find the newly delivered LEED Interpretation #10472 to be of value.    Good Luck!
