We have a project where we have received an RFI during construction for our Green Furniture ID credit referencing LEED ID+C EQc4.5 requirements. In regards to the LEED requirement listed in 018113 - LEED Requirements, 1.5.A.2.C.6 states that we must submit product data indication for systems furniture and seating that are Greenguard Indoor Air Quality certified. Systems furniture is defined by LEED as "panel based workstations compromising modular interconnecting panels, hang-on components, and drawer and filing components or a free-standing grouping of furniture items designed to work in concert" and seating is defined as "task and guest chairs used with systems furniture." Does this requirement apply to fixed, retractable, and grandstand seating? The descriptions of the systems furniture and seating seem unclear on if this type of seating falls under the requirement. Our team is interpreting that fixed grandstand seating is not a part of this requirement. Thoughts?

Lily -
If the grandstand seating is the task seating directly serving the workstation, or is part of the "guest seating" (usually the seating immediately around the workstation), then it would have to comply. I'm having difficulty visualizing that case, but one thing I've learned is that there are many common situations that test even the simplest definitions in LEED!
Grandstand seating is not subject to IEQc4.5. Although it may sound as if it meets the definition of "freestanding groupings of furniture designed to work together," this credit is intended to address furniture in the office environment.
Daniel, yes, sorry for any confusion. This grandstand seating is for a hockey arena, not for an office. Thank you Linda, appreciate the confirmation.
Would auditorium seating fall under the same category as grandstand seating? In my example the seating is in an office building and has bespoke retractable tables and AV/IT equipment integrated into every seat.
If this is subject to IEQc4.5, would the testing need to be done on one seat together with the supporting structure and all integrated extras (including AV/IT)?
