NC-2009 EAp2: Minimum Energy Performance
We have a multiple building Project and the LEED Project Boundary of the 4 buildings to be certified do not sum up to be equal do the LEED Campus Boundary, which is according with AGMBC 2010 page 9 http://www.usgbc.org/Docs/Archive/General/Docs10486.pdf
That said, what happens with the exterior lighting fixtures that are not inside the LPB of the buildings? Are they simply ignored? Where do we account for them in the energy modeling?

A portion of our building envelope is historic. Can we exclude it from our model?

Any new exterior lighting associated with a project should fall within the LPB. I assume that the new exterior lighting is part of the project's scope of work so I am not sure how it can fall outside the project boundary. Sounds like a boundary issue rather than a modeling issue.

The exterior lightings are not associated with any of the buildings in particular, but with the campus as a whole. The light is aimed to the landscape, sidewalks, parking areas...that's why we did not see the need to include them in the LPB of any particular building.

The exterior lighting will need to be associated with a building in the energy models. It is a regulated, mandatory component of 90.1 and must be included.

Thanks Marcus, it's clear now, we will include the fixtures. However, one last question - can I associate the exterior lighting fixtures to the buildings without having to change the LPBs we already draw? Changing the LPB at this point will require a lot of rework...

Hard for me to say without seeing the boundary and knowing far more about the projects than I do.
Can you just include the exterior lighting within each project boundary with the building associated with the project boundary? Is there a Master site submission? Just make sure that all the exterior lighting is assigned to a building. Likely this means it will be spread out among all the buildings. How you do that is hard for me to say.

This is an industrial complex, 4 buildings are seeking LEED (administrative building, dining building, entrance building, manufacturing building). Besides these 4 main buildings, there are a lot of small ancillary buildings that do not meet the MPR of minimum 1000sqft and/or minimum FTE, reason why they are not seeking LEED. The site is really large (10ha, 238.000acres) and to create a better visual figure for you if you cut the site in half, the 4 main buildings will be concentrated in one half of the site, while most of the ancillary non-LEED buildings are concentrentrated on the other half of the site. These ancillary buildings are mostly shelter for machinery, fuel and water tanks, etc, that serve the entire complex. These 2nd half of course has exterior lighting fixtures that we don't see as associated with any of the 4 building in particular because of the reasons I just exposed. That's why we decided to not extend the LPB all the way over there. For instance, there is a group of lighting fixtures in the 2nd half of the site that is 450ft away from the closest main building! Extending the LPB just for the sake of embracing these fixtures would jeopardize the performance of various other credits. Yes, there is a Master Site registered so one solution I was contemplating in order to not leave any exterior lighting fixture out is to associate all the exterior lighting fixtures to the master site and do a separate energy modeling for the master site, with the exterior lighting fixtures only. Would that be acceptable? Do you see another way? With the situation a bit further exposed now, do you think our approch of excluding portions of the site from the LPBs instead of making them equal the LCB area, is reasonable?

A master site submission does not include any energy modeling. It is fine to exclude a portion of the overall site and any exterior lighting it contains. A master site submission does not have to include the entire property. Just include the exterior lighting within the LPBs in the energy models for the buildings.
Again it sounds like a boundary issue rather than a modeling one.
