NC-v4 MRc5:Construction and demolition waste management

Existing steel structure

Can a building reusing existing steel structure claim the material (or any other existing materials to remain) as contributing to the calculations for waste being diverted away from landfill?

Hi Linda,   Do you target for Option 1 or Option 2? If you target for Option 1, the answer is yes. You can claim the reused onsite material for the MR5 credit. You just need to make the unit of reused material onsite be consistent with the other waste unit. If you target for Option 2, the answer is no. You can’t claim. The step-by-step guidance for Option 2 on LEED guide page 590 is clearly stated that “Under Option 2, materials reused on site do not count as waste.”.   Thanks and regards.
