For the Fundamental Refrigerant Management credit under the ID+C rating system, when the requirement says, "Existing small HVAC&R units (defined as containing less than 0.5 pound (225 grams) of refrigerant) and other equipment, such as standard refrigerators, small water coolers, and any other equipment that contains less than 0.5 pound (225 grams) of refrigerant, are exempt", would the "existing small HVAC&R unit" hypothetically be in an existing building or could it also apply to new building construction, as well?

Mercedes,
This prerequisite applies to both new as well as existing equipment that is within the scope of the project. Since a lot of the CI projects are fit-outs and tenant improvement projects in existing buildings and they use existing base building equipment for space conditioning, "existing small HVAC&R unit" could refer to the base building equipment. However, it could also refer to base building equipment that have been installed as part of a new core and shell construction.
