Questions for the experts: We have a project that will have some floor areas demolished and reconstructed/renovated, and also some new construction (less than 20%). 1. We understand that for those portions of the project that will be renovated, to use the existing building as the baseline. Does this approach also apply to the reconstructed areas (e.g. floors demolished and reconstructed)? 2. For the renovated portion, do we have the option of using either the existing building, or ASHRAE 90.1 standard building as the baseline? Thanks!

1. No the reconstructed areas would be considered new construction. 2. It depends. You should use the existing conditions. You could maybe use the 90.1 minimums if you can demonstrate that they are greater than the existing condition and that doing so will produce a conservative result (less savings).

Marcus More questions: 1. EAp2 Section 1.4 Table 1.4.7A “Baseline Air-Side HVAC Schedule” only allow a baseline system to be selected from one of eight standard ASHRAE Baseline HVAC System Types. Our existing system does not fall into any of the standard types. We have not found any reference that allows for the characteristics of an existing HVAC systems to be used in determining the baseline HVAC system. 2. We will be replacing the mechanical system entirely. Does this change our approach to what constitutes baseline? Thanks again.

1. The proposed system type does not determine the baseline system type. The fuel used for heating and the area/# of floors determines the baseline system. See Table G3.1.1 in Appendix G. 2. No. The Baseline is always according to Appendix G. The only exception is if you are reusing existing equipment. Then it gets modeled identically in both models.
