Exception to DES

Hi, I'm now working on a group project certification based on three buildings. The HVAC System has a central cooling system that serves only the three buildings. The central cooling system is located within the leed boundary of the group certification. According to http://www.usgbc.org/Docs/Archive/General/Docs7671.pdf may I exclude to consider the central cooling system as a DES? (in other words, can I assume that my case is equivalent to what described at page 6 of the document linked above: "Exception: When several buildings are grouped as part of a single LEED project, including a central plant building, the central plant is defined as a DES only if it currently serves or is expected to serve other buildings not within the LEED project boundaries for the project"?) Thanks!

Are you wanting to exclude something (like the central plant building) from your LEED certification? Excluding something raises overall questions about the LEED submission beyond just the modeling issue. Are you modeling all three buildings in one model or each building separately? Have you seen the new campus guidance from USGBC issued April 1, 2014? Based on the excerpt you provided from the DESv2 it sounds like the plant can't be considered as a DES since it does not serve other building outside the LEED boundary.

Marcus, thank you for you reply. Yes, I know the last update of LEED Campus Guidance. I include this central plant in the LEED certification. I think to model the three buildings separately (it seems to be too complex to model them together for the software's capacity). Many thanks. Fabio
