Estimating Embodied Carbon with Limited Info

Hope I'm posting this in the right place.  I have a client who's interested in estimating the embodied carbon of multiple buildings (primarily apartment buildings) they own and operate.  Not sure if I'll have access to drawings or area takeoffs of materials for their buildings.  How would you approach this?  Would appreciate input on resources or rules of thumb based on building types or very limited info about structure and enclosure systems.

Thanks,

Have you looked at the CLF Benchmark Study? http://carbonleadershipforum.org/projects/embodied-carbon-benchmark-study/ It’s place to start. You can see the carbon intensity (CO2e/m2) ranges for various building types and establish an estimate for the buildings based on that. You wouldn’t need actual drawings or any quantity information. Thanks, Kristian.  I've seen this study referenced in the forum on similar topics.  Good to have confirmation that it is the best option with limited info or at least a reasonable place to start.  If you or anyone else know if any other resources, I'd love to hear about them.  Thanks again!

We don’t do multifamily as a project type, but our LCA work on K12 schools has generated results in line with the CLF numbers, so my experience has so far been that the CLF numbers are close enough to be considered “directionally accurate”.
