Hi all.
I'm student working on a thesis about lca, epd and leed.
The product under assessment is a unitized façade system.
A façade-related EPD will be issued, once the building is complete. Also, the manufacturing of the façade units does use some products that have a product-specific EPD.
Here is my question: for the purpose of MC02 credit calculations, which EPD should be considered?
Does the façade accounts as a single "product" against the 20 EPD threshold, or do the EPDs of the individual components (eg, aluminium framing, insulated glass units, insulating material, metal claddings) still count?
In the second case, does the whole façade EPD add a contribute to reaching that threshold (for example, accounting for the components that do not have product-specific EPDs)?

This is what I see in the ref guide that might address your question. If you are purchasing them separately, they are separate, but if you purchase as an assembly, they are one thing:a product is the unit of purchase. the requirement for EPDs applies to the final unit of purchase—that is, entire assemblies, not individual components.
