I have some questions regarding Building Product Disclosure and Optimization – Environmental Product Declarations.
- Credit requirements refers to “at least 20 different permanently installed products”. Are toilet equipment (washbasins, toilets and urinals) eligible for credit compliance?
- We received an EPD of Rack and Pinion door closer DC140, consisting of the following items: - A closer body - A link arm – Accessories. Is this type of product eligible for this credit?
- Regarding the LEED V4.1 and after consulting the web credit library (https://www.usgbc.org/credits/new-construction-core-and-shell-schools-new-construction-retail-new-construction-162?view=language), it is possible to verify that the requirement for Core&Shell and Warehouses & Distribution Centers only refers to 10 different permanently installed products from three different manufacturers. Can we assume this requirement for projects that are already registered on-line pursuing the LEED V4 certification?

The following are the answers:
1. Are toilet equipment (washbasins, toilets and urinals) eligible for credit compliance? These are called optional products and they do qualify for this credit. Refer to page number 467 of LEED v4 BD+C Reference Guide how to document for Option 1 and Option 2 of this credit.
2. Yes, this type of product eligible for this credit. Door closer, hinges, handle, strike plate (with independent certificates) = all are considered separate products. But it appears that the Rack and Pinion door closer DC140 serves single function so it will/may be considered single product.
3. Yes, you can attempt v4.1 substitution for this credit. The requirement for Core&Shell and Warehouses & Distribution Centers is to document 10 different permanently installed products from 3 different manufacturers. But for New Construction (NC) you need to document 20 products from 5 manufacturer's.
You can substitute to v4.1 in LEED Online or simply include narrative within Special Circumstances of LEED Form stating the v4.1 substitution.
