Dear All,
We are currently certifying a new Office Building and according to EQ C1 (“ Enhanced Indoor Air Quality strategies”), permanent entryway systems shall be Installed at least 10 feet (3 meters) long in the primary direction of travel to capture dirt and particulates entering the building at regularly used exterior entrances.
We would like to clarify if this requirement could be achieved with the following strategy:
- Rollout mats inside the building: 2 meters long PLUS;
- hard floor in non-breakable limestone in the exterior area: 1 meter long.
The hard floor in non-breakable limestone in the exterior area are eligible for credit compliance? The intent with this solution is create pavements conditions for capture dirt and particulates even before enter the building and do not occupied a big area inside the small interior areas (ex: tenant spaces) with rollout mats.
Thanks in advance

Hi Ricardo,
I think that a hard floor doesn't count by itself towards the 3 meters length of the entryway system. If you don't have space in the building you can install a roll-out mat (or other entryway system) on the exterior as long as it is protected from the rain.
