NC-2009 EAc1:Optimize Energy Performance

Energy Saving from Process Boiler

Our project is an existing manufacturing project and we have 1 existing steam boiler and will install 1 new.

Both steam boilers will supply steam for process equipment only not for space or hot water heating.

Our questions are:

  1. Can we do the exceptional calculation to claim energy saving from these process boiler? Our boiler are high efficiency one with economizer and condensate return.
  2. If we can claim saving then can we use the boiler efficiency in ASHRAE 90.1 table 6.8.1F as baseline efficiency?
  3. To declare the efficiency of the existing boiler, can we use their specification with derating factor or we need to do the actual measurement of boiler efficiency?

Thanks

1. Yes. 2. Yes. 3. Either would work.

I think the steam boiler is used for the need of a large amount of hot water. For normal use water heater, either gas or electric is beneficial. Steam need heavy power backup to run and produce hot water.
