NC-v4.1 EQc2:Low-Emitting Materials

Embedded Grout Applications - VOC Requirements

If a grout product is being used within concrete/foundation works (non-finish application), where the material will be fully embedded and not exposed to occupied indoor spaces or interior air during building operation, do we exempt it from low emitting requirement or it needs to be documented.

Note: the product in question is other than Tile grout/adhesive or any adhesive/sealer that could be exposed.

My understand is that it is not exposed layer.

Faran,  You did not mention your project classification.  Please note that the v4 requirements for Healthcare and Schools require "Exterior applied products" (applied on site) to be included for Low Emitting credit compliance, however, you may omit products used exclusively outside the building envelope for other rating systems.

Further Information: The project is NC. It is not classified as Healthcare/School. The product in question is "Grout", to be used as a concrete repairing material, like filling the cracks.

Faran,  Hi.Repair grout used exclusively outside the building envelope on a v4 BD&C NC project is exempt from low emitting criteria.  If however, grouting repairs occur within the building envelope (we typically still cite "inside the weatherproofing membrane"), the grout is a wet-applied product and is subject to both VOC content and VOC emissions requirements.  Hope this helps.
