Our project is an office building that is pursuing LEED for CS (2009). In order to comply with SSc4.3 we have chosen to install fueling stations for electric vehicles for 3% of the total vehicle parking capacity of the site. We will provide parking spots with a separate electric-car 240v slow charging outlet designed to support street-legal, long-range vehicles. Our questions are:
- Do those parking spots shall be "preferred" OR "for exlusive use" of electric (EV) or hybrid (HEV) only?
- Do we need to provide any special signage for those parking spots as it is required for the "preferred parking for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles" option/path?
We would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
I am not exactly sure what you mean by " "preferred" OR "for exclusive use" ". If you are asking whether non-electric vehicles can be parked in those spaces, then I think the answer is no. If you are talking about 'preferred' as in 'close to the entrance', then I do not believe the charging stations have to be at 'preferred' locations. They can be anywhere, you just have to meet the requirements for the number of charging stations depending on the parking capacity.
I assume you would put up some kind of signage for the charging stations, but I am not aware of any special language requirements in this case.

Hi Saurabh. Thank you for your comments. Indeed my questioning was whether non-electric vehicles can be parked in the charging stations parking spaces. I agree with you that the answer is no.
