Normalizing the data will vary depending upon the major variables that will affect the energy usage results. For many building this is primarily limited to issues like weather and occupancy. For a manufacturing operation is may be more related to production values. For a data center it may be utilization. You need to identify the primary variables that could impact your energy use and develop a plan for gathering that data and then using it to normalize the energy use data.
