Durable chairs for large meeting space

I'm advising a nonprofit organization (the Retreat Farm) on whose board I sit that is renovating a large, 8,000 sf, 19th Century barn into a large community meeting space and wedding venue. We are looking for a source of either folding or stacking chairs that are durable, low-maintenance, and environmentally responsible. We may be seeking individual donors for chairs, and we want to be able to tell a good story—such as carbon-neutral manufacturing, recycled content, or FSC-certified wood. We will likely need 200 to 300 chairs—so it would be a sizeable order. Thanks very much for any recommendations you can offer.  -Alex Wilson

Hi, Alex! Reseat's Marketplace currently has several salvaged, stackable options over the 100+ quantity mark: https://marketplace.reseat.com/
The team could also look at mix and match solutions across inventorys:
  • Canoa Supply: https://www.canoa.supply/
  • Rheaply's Materials Markeplace has fewer options at the moment: https://rheaply.com/materials-marketplace/

Might want to try refurbished for the lowest carbon footprint. Here are some resources to consider. https://pearprojectservices.com/ https://www.officefurniturecenter.com/ https://www.abettersource.com/ https://reseat.com/ Lisa Adams , NCIDQ, LEED AP, WELL AP Director of CitizenHKS & Sustainable Design Leader Principal [HKS, Inc] 125 S Clark St, #1100, Chicago, IL 60603 +1 312 957 4352 | www.hksinc.com From: A

Thank you, Jill and Lisa. If we were looking for just a few dozen chairs I think the idea of refurbished chairs would be perfect. But with needing 200 to 250 chairs—and the propsect of buying them in batches as funding is obtained—it may make more sense to go with new chairs that are made from responsibly sourced materials and responsibly manufactured. So, I'm still looking for the ideal, durable, folding or stacking chairs that have a good environmental story behind them. Manufacturer recommendations much appreciated!

Humanscale is an industry leader for sustainable office furniture. They are still the only manufacturer (in any product category) to achieve full Living Product Challenge certification on a product. Cinto is their stackable chair offering. Ergonomic & Stackable Office Chair | Cinto | Humanscale

Via offers a durable and affordable LEVEL certified stacking chair but I’m not recalling the name. The rep Mary Beth Brudnak marybeth@sheridancontract.com could tell you what this was. Or try Humanscale, possibly their Cinto chair could work but they tend to be more pricey. HI Alex, You might be able to find something like this is the resale marketplace with the downsizing of many corp office spaces/conf spaces – and inventory being high right now, it could be possible to get that quantity. These all have different interfaces, might be best to reach out directly. Hi Alex, The Gala Pure Eco stacking chair from Andreu World might be a good choice; it is made of 100% recycled thermopolymers and is 100% recyclable. It's BIFMA Level 2 certified, and Andreu World is a B Corp and has a pretty strong sustainability story as an organization. Plus I think it is pretty affordable!
