As part of the survey for this pilot, we are asked if this credit will spur market innovation/transformation. As I've worked through this credit on a few of our projects now, it is apparent how much the documentation of this credit is aided by the completion of the BPDO credits. This sentiment seems to be common among the other users on the forum. If the completion of this credit is largely attributed to the completion of the BPDO credits is it really progressing the market any further than the BPDO credits already have and will continue to do? What could be added to make this credit more useful for the progression of our industry?

This pilot credit is difficult to get in a public bid situation. A Design Team can identify a paint that has more favorable information than a competitor, but there still needs to be three equals to be bid. Until the product manufacturers as a whole are readily providing this information it is difficult to compare. Hopefully this credit will spur more manufacturers to action.
I think the benefit of this Pilot Credit is that it requires a more in-depth analysis from both manufacturers and project teams. You are asking manufacturers to analyze the various impacts of their products at different life-cycle stages, which is something that may be present in EPDs, HPDs, etc., but may not be further analyzed once the EPD or HPD is produced. There are some manufacturers that have produced separate documentation for this credit, for example Sherwin Williams. It may be possible to drive the market and other manufacturers to include such documentation as a further commitment to sustainability. If more manufacturers do produce such documentation and make it readily available to consumers, it would be easier to compare the life cycle impacts of various products and make an informed decision when selecting a product.
