CS-v4 EAc5:Renewable energy production

Do we need to included tenant area in renewable energy calculation for CS building?

Dear All,

We are doing a LEEDv4 CS project and I am not sure whether those tenant controlled areas such as shop and office are required to include in the calculation of % renewable energy cost.

According to p.454 of reference guide book (under EA Green Power and Carbon Offsets), "A core and shell buildings' energy consumption is defined as the energy usage of the core and shell floor area as defined by the BOMA standards, but not less than 15% of the project's floor area". Is it meant by the at least 15% of the total project area is included in the renewable energy calculation?

For exmaple.

Total project area: 1000 sqm and Total energy consumption: 10000 MWh

Total landlord controlled area: 500 sqm and total energy consumption under landlord controlled: 5000 MWh

Renewable energy production on-site: 150 MWh

Is it only need to consider 5000 MWh for the calculation and so the % of renewable energy = 150 / 5000 = 3% ?

You can't apply the requirements of one credit to another. For this credit you must use the total building energy cost to determine the renewable energy percentage. You might want to check out LEED v4.1 as these credits have been combined and you might score better.

When calculating the total area for CS to see if it falls within the 15% default, can we exclude the underground parking areas? I don't find any definition regarding the CS in BOMA.

If you saw my original reply ignore it. The energy used by the parking garage would be included in the total building energy cost so in that regard it must be included. The 15% area just applies to the green power credit.
