This credit requires provision of bicycle racks within 30m of any main/functional entry. Our project is a warehouse and it is not possible to locate the racks so close to the building entry because of safety reasons (there are dock doors around and trucks are driving around). The owner is still providing appropriate bicycle racks onsite but in a safe place next to the main gate in a fence where building employees and visitors have to be cheked before entering the main part of the site. Racks will be located within 30m of this gate (within LEED project baundary). Can a guard gate be treated as a main/functional entry? Have anyone heard of this kind of exception rule?
Another question is connected to the bicycle path requirements. Is it allowed to provode a path which would be shared by the pedestrians and bicycles. If so what are the requirements for the width of this kind of a path?

Hi Agata, I would suggest asking GBCI to be sure, but this sounds reasonable. There is definitely a history of projects using a secure gate entrance as the "project entrance" for walking distance to transit, preferred parking location, etc, but I'd want to double check that it will work for this credit in v4.
For the path, I'm not aware of a distance requirement but if it is a path/trail versus a sidewalk, it should be fine. Thinking about bike paths in the US at least, most are shared with pedestrians and it would be very unusual to see one that specifies bike only. A sidewalk would be considered pedestrian only and not qualify, but I think it is assumed that a bike path will include pedestrians, runners, skaters, etc...
