Demand Control Ventilation

Hi, I am wondering what savings can be taken by using room occupancy controls to control the HVAC system in a 24/7 building. 1) Technically the system can setback when not in use, but I am not sure whether this can be incorporated. 2) Also the system uses the occupancy controls for demand controlled ventilation, is it adequate to make an assessment of when the rooms will be occupied and only provide ventilation during those time (whilst the baseline with have ventilation 24/7)? Thanks

Dear Victoria, IMO: Short answer is yes, you can take credit for DCV. But it depends a bit on how the control loop works. I might not be understanding your question, but this may help: - Occupancy profiles/schedules must be the same for baseline and proposed - Setback control schedules must be the same in proposed and baseline. 1)Yes, but setback must be incorporated in baseline too. In general, take credit for reduced OA ventilation rates not for ON/OFF AC. If AC is off in proposed, it should be off in the baseline. Again, this might not be the case for your specific control loop. 2)Yes, if your building is occupied 24/7 I would model a constant ventilation rate 24/7 for baseline. but if you are taking credit for demand control ventilation in the proposed, then you should model ASHRAE 62.1 minimum ventilation rates from IEQp1 for Baseline systems.
